ABOUT US

Next Generation Law Firm

Smart, lightweight, flexible and client-focused
Whilst we hold traditional values and have a strong culture of service, we are not structured as a traditional law firm.  Key differences are in the following areas:
  • Overheads
  • Meeting places
  • Deal only with the Principal
  • Per minute billing
  • Alternative fee arrangements

Overheads

Your business

is our business

We do not carry the usual overheads and are therefore able to provide our services at a lower rate and be flexible with our fee structures.

Office Space

If you want Bay views, receptions the size of rugby fields, gargantuan boardrooms, teams of lawyers and reams of technical advice, we know many traditional law firms that would be happy to charge you for the privilege.

We have abandoned the ivory tower.  Most of our communications with clients take place over the telephone and by e-mail, or using other technology such as Skype or Zoom.  When we do hold the rare face-to-face meeting, this usually takes place in consulting rooms in Melbourne CBD or elsewhere.  (We have access to consulting rooms at a number of different locations).  We also meet clients at their business premises and occasionally at cafes and restaurants.

Deal with the Principal

Clients' point of contact is the principal of the firm, not an inexperienced lawyer.  We do not engage inexperienced lawyers and we strive to avoid the duplication and over-servicing that often results from using teams.

Fees

As regards fees, we focus on providing value to our clients.  Rather than charging for each unit of 6, 15 or 60 minutes or part thereof (and rounding up), which is customary, we only charge for each minute spent on a matter, which can make a significant difference to the overall charge.  We also offer alternative fee arrangements where practicable (e.g. fixed fees, retainers, uplifts and hybrid arrangements).
